Florissant: A Blooming, Historical City

Situated just north of St. Louis lies Florissant, Missouri, a beautiful city of approximately 50,000 residents. One of the oldest settlements in Missouri, the Florissant area was established in the late 1700s under the name “Fleurissant,” a romantic word for “blooming” that speaks to the area’s French roots. Following World War II, the area experienced a significant increase in population, transforming the sleepy town into a thriving suburban center. Today, Florissant offers comfortable and peaceful living within easy driving distance of St. Louis. The city hosts a handful of festivals each year, including Fiesta in Florissant, Florissant Valley of Flowers Festival, and Florissant Fall Festival. The area is also proud to boast many schools under the Hazelwood and Ferguson-Florissant districts, as well as two theological colleges, St. Louis Christian College and Urshan College. In 2012, Florissant was named one of Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live – Small Cities, and in 2014, the city was named the #1 best small city for retirees and the second-safest city in Missouri.
